The Gospel According to Paul

Redland Performing Arts Centre Since its premiere in 2019, the smash hit comedy The Gospel According to Paul has taken the country by storm, selling out venues across the country and attracting plaudits from audiences and critics alike.  Co-creator and star of The Wharf Revue Jonathan Biggins creates an appropriately acerbic and always compelling portrait of one of Australia’s most charismatic leaders. Full of intelligence and wit, The Gospel According to Paul is a funny, insightful and poignant depiction of Paul Keating, the man that — as he tells it — single-handedly shaped contemporary Australia.  Showcasing Keating’s eviscerating wit, rich rhetoric and ego the size of Everest, Jonathan distils Keating into one hilarious and evocative night of theatre —  the visionary, reformer, rabble-rouser, and Bankstown boy who quickly realised that to get things done in political life it’s better to be needed than loved. Let's Talk About...Grief and Loss (Anticipatory and Bereavement)

Community events This free 2-hour in-person event provides an introduction into grief and loss, focusing particularly on anticipatory grief before a person dies and the grief and loss experienced after a person dies (bereavement). As a community, it is important that we better understand and normalise grief and loss, and learn some important ways of supporting ourselves, or others, during this time. Please note this is not a formal grief & loss or bereavement counselling session. It is however an opportunity to learn more about grief and loss, ask questions and gently share over a cuppa. Redland Reads Book Club: Growing Grapes Might Be Fun

Libraries Join the book club! Meet with fellow literature lovers and enjoy great conversation together. New members welcome.   Book of the month: Growing Grapes Might Be Fun by Dierdre Macken, Dierdre Macken’s memoir is an honest, very funny account of a couple's move to the country for a fresh start. Bursting with optimism and a can-do attitude, they're on a steep learning curve as they establish a vineyard and learn how things are done in the country. When Deirdre and her husband Roger decide to turn a sheep paddock into a vineyard, they are following the centuries-old tradition of family winemaking. Bit by bit they clean up the land, plant vines, protect them through storms and drought and turn a shack into a cottage. Slowly they start to read the landscape, appreciate the talents of locals and learn what to do when a snake passes by. This is a humorous memoir with larger-than-life characters, hard slog and sweet triumph. It is also a story of a deepening awareness of our connection with the land and the rhythms… Event Type: Free.
