Letchworth Upper Eastside

Genesee Valley Chapter Moderately strenuous (due to length) 10 - 12 mile hike with over 1,000'’ of elevation gain. This is not a beginner’s hike. Depending on group size and pace, this hike could take 6 to 7 hours, so please plan accordingly. If you have time constraints, this may not be the hike for you. Intermediate/Novice whitewater kayak instruction

Albany Chapter Intermediate/Novice whitewater instruction for kayakers will be offered on June 21 and 22 by Schenectady ADK. This two-day clinic is designed for boaters who have had some previous experience but still need more work to perfect the basic strokes and maneuvers. Students should have paddled class 1 or 2 whitewater five or more times and be able to perform eddy turns, peel-outs, and ferries on class 1 water. They should be able to paddle in a straight line, identify river features including eddies, waves, and holes, and self-rescue in class 1 and 2 water. Kayakers should have or be working on a roll and must be comfortable with wet exits. We will start on flat water to refine paddling techniques as well as rolls. On the river we will work on performing crisp reliable eddy turns, peel-outs, angle control on ferries, and gaining overall experience. Oatka Creek Park Hike (Moderate)

Evening Hike - Crescent Trail

Evening Paddle -Henry Hudson Park, Bethlehem,Hudson River

Albany Chapter Note: there are 2 launch areas at the park. There is an area for hand-carried boats near the Upstate Kayak Rental facility and a ramp for power boats which is where we usually put in. If you are planning to rent, please contact Pam to coordinate joining the group. Be on the water BEFORE 6:00 p.m. Plan to arrive at least 15-30 minutes ahead of launch time. We begin paddling promptly at 6pm. Take the Thruway to Exit 22. After the tollbooth, take Rt. 144 north for about 1 mile, then take a right onto Barent Winne Road to the DEC boat launch next to Henry Hudson Park. Bike Ride Genesee Riverway and Erie Canal Heritage Trails

Genesee Valley Chapter 18 mile bike ride in 4 legs on the Genesee Riverway and Erie Canal Heritage Trails. West to the CSX tracks, south to Scottsville Rd, north to Court St and east returning to REI. Meet at 9:45am in REI's parking lot (450 E Henrietta Rd, Rochester, NY 14620) with wheels rolling at 10:00am. This ride will be on paved bike paths or sidewalks and won't cross any roads. There will be a few no shade sections. If it's a very hot day, we'll shorten the ride. Please wear your helmet, dress for the weather and bring water to drink. Bicentennial Erie Canal Bike Ride: Holley to Palmyra

Genesee Valley Chapter This is the third of eight GVC rides to bike the length of the Erie Canal on its bicentennial year. This section is 50 miles on the mostly flat canal path. Goodnow FireTower

Paddle - Owasco Flats

Genesee Valley Chapter We will meet at the Bass Pro Shop in Auburn on Rt. 5&20 at 9:30 to caravan on to Owasco Flats.  The drive from the Bass Pro to our launch site (at 2799 Fire Lane 1, Moravia, NY 13118,) will take an additional 28 minutes.  The launch is primitive and can be a little muddy!!!  There are NO facilities at the launch, however there is a marina close by should anyone want to make a pit stop before we depart down the river.' , We will paddle south through Owasco preserve for approx 1 1/2 hours (approx 4.2 miles) or till we reach the island before the bridge going into Moravia.  We'll stop for lunch there.  If the water is too high we will look for an alternative spot for a llunch break.  (Don't worry - we'll eat!!  Esp if Peg is on the trip!!)  After a short break we will return to the south end of Owasco Lake. Blackhead Range (A)

Long Island Chapter The Blackhead Range is a prominent landmark in the northern Catskills and it’s 3 main peaks are the 3rd, 4th, and 5th highest of the Catskill 3500. In fact, an average height person standing on the summit of Black Dome Mountain is breathing 4000 foot air. We’ll summit all three (Black Dome, Blackhead, and Thomas Cole) on this 8 mile trail hike with almost 3000 feet of elevation gain and a few short scrambles. SUNDAY HIKE – Powder Mills Park

Genesee Valley Chapter Join us to enjoy Powder Mills Park for a 3-hour, 5-6 mile loop/out and back hike. Meet at the Parking Lot on Park Road adjacent to Rand Lodge.  We'll meet at 8:45 for a 9 AM start. This is a hike over rolling ground, poles may be useful especially if we have rain!  Bring water, and a snack, dress for the weather, but please leave your dogs at home. Introduction to Backpacking, 3-Day Backpack on the Northville-Placid Trail

Genesee Valley Chapter This trip is intended for individuals who are either new to backpacking or have very limited backpacking experience, and who would like to gain backpacking experience and skills before venturing out on their own. This 3-day/2-nite trip will be on the section of the Northville-Placid Trail (NPT) that runs from Upper Benson (located approx. 5 miles west of Northville, NY) to Whitehouse (located approx. 7 miles southeast of Piseco, NY) through the rolling hills of the Silver Lake Wilderness Area in the southern Adirondacks. Anticipated distances backpacked each day will be approximately 7.0, 11.5 and 3.2 miles, for a total trip length of 21.7 miles. The maximum climbing elevation on any given day will be no more than approximately 800’. The plan is to camp at a wilderness campsite the first nite and camp at a lean-to the second nite, but that could change depending on actual field conditions. Paddle - Oak Island to Geneva and return

Genesee Valley Chapter We will launch at the Oak Island Community Center which is located at Oak St. in Waterloo, NY.  There is a concrete pad for launching, we'll paddle west on the Seneca River for 5 miles, we'll take a break, have our lunch (that you bring with you) at Seneca Lake St. Park.  There are bathrooms and picnic facilities at the park.  We will then return to Waterloo/Oak Island where paddlers will have a choice of ice cream either at Mac's Drive Inn or Prepp'ys ,   Both are located on Rt. 5&20.  Of course, Peg will probably be at both!!  Time and weather permitting, we may cross Seneca Lake and tour the visitors center at the north end of the lake or explore part of a hidden creek on the way back to our launch site.  This is a longer paddle , In the range of 4 hours so be prepared, water conditions are mostly protected and we will not go out onto the lake if windy. , Directions:  From Rochester, take the I 90 to exit 41, right off exit 41 turn onto 414 south to Rt. 5 & 20.  Turn right (west) onto Rt. 5/20… Region: Genesee Valley Region. Ellison Park Hike (Moderate)

Genesee Valley Chapter We’ll meet in the parking lot on the north side of Blossom Road at 11:45am to start our hike prompt at noon. Our travels will take us about 5 miles, over both flat and hilly terrain. Please dress for the conditions and bring water and a snack for the trail (if desired). Paddle Full Moon - Erie Canal Fairport

Bicentennial Erie Canal Bike Ride: Ilion to Amsterdam

Genesee Valley Chapter This is the seventh of eight GVC rides to bike the length of the Erie Canal on its bicentennial year. This section is 46 miles on the mostly flat canal path.
