MCDOT Hosts Kensington Parkwood Elementary School – Community Meeting
Pedestrian Safety
MCDOT will host an onsite community meeting to discuss proposed pedestrian safety improvements within the one-mile walkshed of Kensington Parkwood Elementary School.The meeting will begin at the intersection of Clearbrook Lane and Cedar Lane. As part of a countywide initiative to identify safe and accessible routes for students walking and bicycling to school, MCDOT completed a walkability study for Kensington Parkwood Elementary School in 2019. The study evaluated existing infrastructure conditions and recommended improvements to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety and accessibility. In October 2024, MCDOT presented the study’s recommendations to the community. Based on community feedback, the proposed plans have been revised. Every Sunday, participants line their cars from 8 am until distribution begins at 12:30 pm so that they can be at the front of the queue. Once distribution begins at 12:30 pm, hardworking volunteers place bags and boxes of food into their trunks.
The boxes and bags include essential food items such as rice, pasta, fruits, vegetables, eggs, bread, milk, canola oil, vegetable oil, cereal, beans, canned foods, and much more.
The groceries also include ethnic and cultural food items such as smoked fish (kuta and kini), palm oil, cassava leaves, kenkey, banku, Indian spices, masa brosa, etc. In addition, KPCI is very excited to announce that Montgomery County has given us a grant to acquire a refrigerated truck with a cooler/walk-in freezer.

Do you have an extra bicycle you no longer need?
MCDOT will once again sponsor a bike collection drive during this year's Community Service Month. Unused bicycles can become a valuable transportation resource for Montgomery County residents in need.
Donated child / adult bikes and bike parts will be accepted from 7:00am to 2:00pm on Friday, October 3, 2025. (No bike helmets, please)
Donations will go to the Rockville Bike Hub, a non-profit organization whose volunteers refurbish the bikes and give them to low-income residents throughout the County, through Rockville's Terrific Kids, Bikes For The World and MCDOT's Bike Match MoCo programs.
Residents may also donate by check to the Rockville Bike Hub during the bicycle collection event. All donated funds will be used to purchase bike helmets and parts to repair the bikes.

City of Light Helping Hands Food Pantry

Notes: Line up starts at 8:00 a.m.
Every Sunday, participants line their cars from 8 am until distribution begins at 12:30 pm so that they can be at the front of the queue. Once distribution begins at 12:30 pm, hardworking volunteers place bags and boxes of food into their trunks.
The boxes and bags include essential food items such as rice, pasta, fruits, vegetables, eggs, bread, milk, canola oil, vegetable oil, cereal, beans, canned foods, and much more.
The groceries also include ethnic and cultural food items such as smoked fish (kuta and kini), palm oil, cassava leaves, kenkey, banku, Indian spices, masa brosa, etc. In addition, KPCI is very excited to announce that Montgomery County has given us a grant to acquire a refrigerated truck with a cooler/walk-in freezer.

Days of Commemoration
Sukkot begins a seven-day festival in commemoration of the Jewish people’s 40 years of wandering in the desert as well as thanksgiving for the fall harvest. The ancient Hebrews celebrated Sukkot as a festival of thanksgiving and brought sacrifices to the Temple in Jerusalem. Jews still observe the holiday by making joyous parades in synagogues and carrying lulabs (palm branches), etrogs (citrons), and myrtle and willow branches. During Sukkot, traditional Jews live in a hut called a sukkah as a reminder of the temporary dwellings in which their ancestors lived during their wanderings in the wilderness in Biblical times. Ends with Shemini Atzeret, which is observed with memorial services and cycle of Biblical readings and is a supplementary two-day celebration.
