Creative Expressions Through Music

This fun, free, in-person interactive program is powered by the talented Community Artist Fellows and showcases the expressive power of music. We invite those who love music to join us in making, enjoying, and discussing a variety of musical compositions. We welcome all families and individuals affiliated with the Penn Memory Center. Carers (caregivers and care partners) are also encouraged to join. We welcome all experience levels and will make the class accessible to those with cognitive impairment or dementia, however, those with a diagnosis of dementia will need a partner for the program. This class is best suited to those with mild to moderate staged dementia. Creative Expressions Through Music is a unique opportunity for caregivers and persons living with dementia to connect and experience positive engagement together. Questions? Grief Yoga

And we know that this takes significant time and energy. Being a caregiver is exactly that.....giving care to others. How do you manage and process your experiences in this role? I imagine you experience a spectrum of emotions, challenges, shifts in relationship dynamics, uncertainty, exhaustion, physical demands, disconnection, the list probably goes on. There is grief that comes with being a caregiver. Anticipatory grief and the grief of a life not playing out as expected. Who is caring for you? Please join Beth as a way to allow her to care for you. Let this be a devoted time for you to become aware, to express, to connect, and to restore. You are not alone. If you would like, the instructor has recommended the following items for class: Yoga mat or a comfortable chair Journal Blanket Schedule: The class will be on the 1st Thursday of every month… Location: Online. Memory Café: Birding for Well-being

By practicing simple mindfulness and nature-observation techniques, we can strengthen our connection to the birds and natural world around us, amplifying the benefits for our mind, body, and spirit. Join Holly Merker in this soothingly guided experience, designed to be welcoming and inclusive for all. No previous experience in mindfulness or birdwatching is necessary - all are welcomed!   Supplies: You’re welcome to bring your own binoculars. Guide Holly Merker will have some to borrow on a first-come basis. , Sturdy footwear is suggested. , , Accessibility information: This program has been developed to be inclusive and accessible. People with mobility disabilities are particularly welcomed to attend. This will be a slow-paced walk on wide and mostly flat paved trails, traveling less than .5 mile. There are no stairs or steep inclines. We might sometimes stand for short periods of time as we observe birds and share our experiences with birds. On-site restrooms are available.
