Sign up for one of out stand up paddle board (SUP) clinics and see what all the excitement is about. Even if you have little experience paddling, our group SUP courses are designed using ACA level one requirements, which introduce and expose beginning paddlers to the skills, equipment and knowledge that is needed to become a successful paddle boarder. We also challenge more advanced paddlers wanting to improve their techniques on the water. Upon completion of this course, students will be certified to rent our exclusive Stand Up Paddle boards.

Basic Sailing Quest Class - 04

The Quest sailboat is taught using a mainsail and a jib and requires two people to rent at the Aquatic Center (only one person need to be certified.) Students will be paired for on the water training. The Quest is 14 feet long, 6 feet wide and weighs 310 pounds; it is a bit more difficult to balance and recover from a capsize. Most sailing programs utilize this type of boat; it is suitable for beginners but also for learning more advanced sailing techniques.

Basic Powerboating Class -04

Course includes instruction on the why and how of safe power boating. Time is split between classroom and practical "hands on" experiences using our fleet of training vessels. This is a basic introductory class where all boating is done at low speed. The classroom will cover the rules of navigation, anatomy of a vessel, theory of small boat engines and propulsion, knots, and seamanship. On the water practical will cover basic maneuvering and handling, docking, and disembarking, and man overboard drills. California Department of Boating and Waterways safety course certificate is included.

Basic Rowing (Sweeping) Class - 01

This course is designed for the beginner/novice rower in a two, four or 8 man rowing shell with one oars. It teaches safety, boat control, proper care of equipment, and correct rowing technique. Students will row in team rowing shells and learn the fundamental aspects of sweep rowing. Unlike our sculling class, successful completion of this course does not enable students to rent shells for recreational use. This course is designed to teach team rowing and students are encouraged to join one of the rowing programs offered through the aquatic center after successful completion of this course. Opioid Overdose Prevention Training

For the first time in years, the number of opioid overdose deaths dropped in the United States, in part because of strategic distribution of naloxone (Narcan a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose. ) Be a part of the solution and learn how to administer naloxone and utilize fentanyl test strips at an Opioid Overdose Prevention training delivered by Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services. This clinic for high school students is a great introduction to the sport of rowing for those interested in joining Capital Crew in fall. Participants will be taught boat safety and handling, introductory stroke technique, the importance of rowing as a team and work on gaining fitness. Basic Sailing Quest Class - 05

The Quest sailboat is taught using a mainsail and a jib and requires two people to rent at the Aquatic Center (only one person need to be certified.) Students will be paired for on the water training. The Quest is 14 feet long, 6 feet wide and weighs 310 pounds; it is a bit more difficult to balance and recover from a capsize. Most sailing programs utilize this type of boat; it is suitable for beginners but also for learning more advanced sailing techniques.

This course is designed for those with little to no experience and will familiarize the student with the basic fundamentals of windsurfing. This class covers rigging, terminology, balance, stances and windsurfing theory. Instructors will utilize the latest techniques and a variety of sail sizes to decrease fatigue and help accelerate learning. The newest addition to our fleet, the Zest sailboat is taught using a mainsail only and can be sailed by one person (single-handed.) It is the easiest to rig and sail, and compared to the Quest, it is more stable and easier to recover from a capsize. The Zest is 12 feet long, 5 feet wide and weighs 160 pounds. It is our best option for practicing basic skills and sailing solo if you do not have a partner. However, it will easily accommodate an adult and a child or two average-sized adults.

Join us for paddling tailored to individuals of all sizes, particularly those in larger bodies, along with their friends and families. No prior paddling experience is needed! We strive to ensure a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experience for all participants by offering personalized modifications and adaptations based on individual needs. Our aquatic center staff will be on-site to assist with life jacket fittings (we provide jackets up to size 6x), help participants explore a variety of watercraft designed to accommodate higher weight capacities (our boats support up to 500Ibs), and provide water safety education and adaptive paddling techniques. Basic Sailing Keelboat Class - 06

The Holder 20 Keelboat is our largest and most stable boat with boat mainsail and jib. As with the Quest, it requires two people to rent (only one person needs to be certified.) Three to five students will be grouped for on the water training. With its larger cockpit and bench style seating the keelboat can accommodate four to six adults and is the best choice for those who want a less physically demanding boat. There is no capsize recovery required as the boat is extremely unlikely to capsize.

Course includes instruction on the why and how of safe power boating. Time is split between classroom and practical "hands on" experiences using our fleet of training vessels. This is a basic introductory class where all boating is done at low speed. The classroom will cover the rules of navigation, anatomy of a vessel, theory of small boat engines and propulsion, knots, and seamanship. On the water practical will cover basic maneuvering and handling, docking, and disembarking, and man overboard drills. California Department of Boating and Waterways safety course certificate is included.

The first day instruction will start with sit on top Kayaks, then move to a more technical boat called the surf ski. The second day will incorporate all of the skills in a Viking touring boat. Our ACA certified instructors create a friendly, welcoming environment for all participants regardless of age, ability or skill. This course is designed for the beginner/novice rower in a two, four or 8 man rowing shell with one oars. It teaches safety, boat control, proper care of equipment, and correct rowing technique. Students will row in team rowing shells and learn the fundamental aspects of sweep rowing. Unlike our sculling class, successful completion of this course does not enable students to rent shells for recreational use. This course is designed to teach team rowing and students are encouraged to join one of the rowing programs offered through the aquatic center after successful completion of this course. Course includes instruction on the why and how of safe power boating. Time is split between classroom and practical "hands on" experiences using our fleet of training vessels. This is a basic introductory class where all boating is done at low speed. The classroom will cover the rules of navigation, anatomy of a vessel, theory of small boat engines and propulsion, knots, and seamanship. On the water practical will cover basic maneuvering and handling, docking, and disembarking, and man overboard drills. The Quest sailboat is taught using a mainsail and a jib and requires two people to rent at the Aquatic Center (only one person need to be certified.) Students will be paired for on the water training. The Quest is 14 feet long, 6 feet wide and weighs 310 pounds; it is a bit more difficult to balance and recover from a capsize. Most sailing programs utilize this type of boat; it is suitable for beginners but also for learning more advanced sailing techniques.

The newest addition to our fleet, the Zest sailboat is taught using a mainsail only and can be sailed by one person (single-handed.) It is the easiest to rig and sail, and compared to the Quest, it is more stable and easier to recover from a capsize. The Zest is 12 feet long, 5 feet wide and weighs 160 pounds. It is our best option for practicing basic skills and sailing solo if you do not have a partner. However, it will easily accommodate an adult and a child or two average-sized adults.

Join us for paddling tailored to individuals of all sizes, particularly those in larger bodies, along with their friends and families. No prior paddling experience is needed! We strive to ensure a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experience for all participants by offering personalized modifications and adaptations based on individual needs. Our aquatic center staff will be on-site to assist with life jacket fittings (we provide jackets up to size 6x), help participants explore a variety of watercraft designed to accommodate higher weight capacities (our boats support up to 500Ibs), and provide water safety education and adaptive paddling techniques. This community-focused program is a wonderful opportunity to build connections, develop paddling skills, and enjoy time on the water in a supportive and empowering environment. The Holder 20 Keelboat is our largest and most stable boat with boat mainsail and jib. As with the Quest, it requires two people to rent (only one person needs to be certified.) Three to five students will be grouped for on the water training. With its larger cockpit and bench style seating the keelboat can accommodate four to six adults and is the best choice for those who want a less physically demanding boat. There is no capsize recovery required as the boat is extremely unlikely to capsize.

This course is designed for the beginning/novice rower to learn in a single rowing shell with two oars. It teaches safety, boat control, proper care of equipment, and correct rowing technique. Students will row in open water type rowing shells designed for a single person. The first day instruction will start with sit on top Kayaks, then move to a more technical boat called the surf ski. The second day will incorporate all of the skills in a Viking touring boat. Our ACA certified instructors create a friendly, welcoming environment for all participants regardless of age, ability or skill. Once you have completed this course, you are eligible to rent any equipment in which you have shown competence through this course.

The Quest sailboat is taught using a mainsail and a jib and requires two people to rent at the Aquatic Center (only one person need to be certified.) Students will be paired for on the water training. The Quest is 14 feet long, 6 feet wide and weighs 310 pounds; it is a bit more difficult to balance and recover from a capsize. Most sailing programs utilize this type of boat; it is suitable for beginners but also for learning more advanced sailing techniques.

Come paddle into the semester along the American River with Peak Adventures. We will meet at the Peak office in the Union, drive up to the put-in spot together in our Peak van, and paddle back down to Sac State. Hike into your first semester at Sac State with Peak Adventures. For this trip, we will be heading over to the bay. First, we will meet on campus at the Peak Adventures office, take our company van, and head to the Marin Headlands. There, you can enjoy the scenery of this oceanfront trail on a nice, relaxing hike. We will finish the day at the Muir Beach lookout for a perfect view of the sunset over the Pacific. This is a great way to meet new people, make new friends, and get to know the area around Sac State.
