Workshop: Gamification and Gaming in the Language Classroom (Day 1)

Are you interested in learning more about how you can effectively integrated games and gamification into your language teaching practice? This 2-day workshop will explore current research and theory on the intersection of gamification and applied linguistics. We will discuss the pros and cons of digital serious games, traditional classroom games, as well as more novel games that encourage creative and meaningful language use.  Additionally, we will investigate how to gamify a course and move beyond isolated game activities. Day 1 will introduce key research and theory to foster group discussions on applications, successes, and challenges. Day 2 will be focused on trying out (playing) a few novel game activities and applying theory to them.
