Luce Scholars Program: Program Review and Application Q&A
This session will provide a program overview and there will be an opportunity to ask questions about the application.
The Luce Scholars Program is a 13-month leadership development program that provides immersive, professional experiences in Asia. Designed to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen relationships across borders, the Luce Scholars Program emphasizes experiential learning rather than academic study. Scholars are not enrolled in a degree-granting program or engaged in traditional research, but instead participate in hands-on, cross-cultural, and professional learning through their language training and placements.
The Luce Scholars Program is open to American citizens or permanent residents who are under 32 years of age, have received at least a bachelor’s degree, have demonstrated leadership potential and a record of high achievement, and possess a strong interest in deepening their engagement with Asia.

Come prepared to give and receive feedback on your statements. Upload your drafts to the cloud and be sure to have sharing settings on! We'll meet for about an hour and half, in small groups.
There will be UW Fulbright Advisors, Fulbright alums, and peers at this session - be ready for some robust conversations and good ideas. You will have time to incorporate the feedback into your application before the UW campus deadline (August 27, 2025).

CAMPUS DEADLINE: Fulbright U.S. Student Program, 2026-27
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the largest U.S. exchange program offering opportunities for students and young professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and primary and secondary school teaching worldwide. The program currently awards approximately 2,000 grants annually in all fields of study, and operates in more than 140 countries worldwide. All students are encouraged to consider this great opportunity, whether as part of your academic program or outside of it.
Current UW graduate students MUST apply through the UW campus process and meet our earlier campus deadline. The UW campus deadline for the 2025–2026 Fulbright U.S. student competition is August 28, 2024. Although the official Fulbright deadline is later, currently enrolled students MUST complete all application materials and "Lock" their application for Campus Review by our earlier deadline.

Established in 1974, the Luce Scholars Program is a competitive leadership development fellowship that provides emerging leaders with immersive professional experiences in Asia. The program aims to strengthen relationships across borders by offering Scholars opportunities to deepen their understanding of Asia's countries, cultures, and people. Through this yearlong immersion, the Program equips scholars with knowledge and skills to address global leadership challenges and build a more interconnected world.
Open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents, the Luce Scholars Program provides stipends, language training, and individualized professional placement in Asia for 18 Luce Scholars each year. Every year, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports well over 100,000 German and international students and researchers around the globe – making it the world's largest funding organisation of its kind.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for Fellowships for Americans in the Nordic Countries in the 2026-27 academic year.
ASF offers both long-term (4-12 months) fellowships of up to $23,000 and short-term (1-3 months) grants of up to $5,000 to graduate students (preferably dissertation-related) and academic professionals interested in pursuing research or creative arts projects in the Nordic region (Denmark, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Sápmi).
