Luce Scholars Program Information Session
The Luce Scholars Program is a 13-month leadership development program that provides immersive, professional experiences in Asia. Designed to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen relationships across borders, the Luce Scholars Program emphasizes experiential learning rather than academic study. Scholars are not enrolled in a degree-granting program or engaged in traditional research, but instead participate in hands-on, cross-cultural, and professional learning through their language training and placements.
The Luce Scholars Program is open to American citizens or permanent residents who are under 32 years of age, have received at least a bachelor’s degree, have demonstrated leadership potential and a record of high achievement, and possess a strong interest in deepening their engagement with Asia.
Placements are currently possible in the following countries and regions: Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam…

DUE DATE: MEXT Research Scholarship (Graduate Study in Japan)
The MEXT Research Scholarship is intended for graduate or post-graduate students to complete a master's or doctoral degree at a Japanese institution. It provides for airfare to Japan, tuition for the university, and a stipend for cost of living. In addition to the information listed on this page, all applicants are responsible for reading and following the instructions in the 2026 MEXT Research Scholarship Application Guidelines.
Applicants must explain their intended program of study (major) in the application and should take care to explain why they wish to complete their degree in Japan and how their research will benefit US-Japan relations. It should be related to their undergraduate field of study and should be a program which they can pursue at a Japanese university. The scholarship is open to students pursuing any major and is typically for a period of two years or the length of time to complete the degree program, including a six-month term of intensive Japanese language training.
